TODAY’S POST-M0DERN UNIVERSITY
Making sense of the nonsensical encapsulates the frustrations that are associated with any viable attempt that purports to understand postmodernisms influence on the institutional life of the University in its present incarnation. Places of higher learning seek to ascertain knowledge while simultaneously purportedly attempt to divest information into the constituency that composes the student body. A quandary is created in the implementation of the inherent mission that is associated with education and postmodernism. The pursuit of knowledge implies understanding canonical conditions that govern the dynamics of processing informational theories and standards within given fields of study. Ironically, the lack of acceptable standards in postmodern thought has created educational structures that conflict with the very nature and purpose of their existence.
Evidentiary causal conditions predicate an empirical end result when the discrepancies of humanities flawed thought process is adequately dealt with. The vacuous void that follows a rejection of standards that are to be pursued leaves the educational system mired in a philosophical quandary. The answer that is presented within the postmodern system is seriously inept when the objective conditions that make up the traditional boundaries of education are brought into focus. The categorical discriminatory practice of isolationist observation, a belief and practice that denies cohesion between disciplines creates an atmosphere of relativism that is destructive to rational understanding. Education is forced to exist within a system that denies the value of learning stated ends, or so it seems.
Implied within this structural abandonment of Enlightenment regulations, comes a new challenge to the church. How does the Christian community best express the objective truth of The Faith, to people who reject the very premise that undergrids Christianity’s message? The answer may appear in the guise of evaluation of the era immediately preceding the enlightenment is brought into the equation for consideration. What conditions existed in the premodernistic worldview that made allowances for the presentation of the Gospel within a primitive framework? If objectivity is degenerated in value, what, if any, conditions exist subjectively that may present Christianity as the superior option among the many expressions that should be received for dalliance and flirtatious examination along intellectual pursuits?
Experiential validation may prove to be the answer once again in the elevation of Christianities holistic approach to natural and supra-natural conditions. Demonstrative expressiveness of power can be viewed as a conditional bridge between the Christian culture of objective reality and the non-objective Post-Modern inanities, possibly. If truth is perceived as relative, express the superiority of Christianity relationally through viably demonstrative means. In the world of the ancients, acceptance of the realities beyond that, which is observable, was not a lengthy point of consideration. Although mythic extravagancies came to be acceptable methodologies of belief, these false systems of conviction easily gave way to the reality of Christ Jesus in openly demonstrative displays of grandeur, as the Gospels and Acts records in the narrational portions that deal with the supernatural enactments of, first Jesus, and then by those who followed Him in the establishment of the Church.
Postmodernism’s drift toward societal inebriation and negation needs to be countermanded. This reappraisal of socialistic neutralization of individual value for the corporate structured webbing should be abandoned and attention needs to be drawn to the Communistic tendencies of postmodernism. Examining the past failures of Socialism’s vast experiment may lead to future predictions of narcissistic realities for the postmodern thinker, thus negating the influence upon the individual.
