POST-MODERNISM AND YOU
Secular culture is undergoing a significant transformation in perspective analysis of thought and influence. These confluent forces are reshaping the way social networks are formed, influences are shaped and opinions are arrived at. The postmodern way of thinking, like so many philosophical schools before it, is digressing from the safety of academic surroundings into the confines of society in general. The broad, inconclusive, sweeping approach to alternative and conflicting theorems is filtering into virtually every major sociologically influential ring of impact. Education, science, medicine, religion, even the surety of historical certainty is succumbing to the intransigent inconsistencies of postmodernism.
The subjective focus of individual pleasure and concerns for personal betterment has become the benchmark of the newly emerging worldviews imprint on society. Rather than accepting the standards of proven notions of intractable givens, alternative contributions that benefit the momentary need or focus are given the place of precedence. This has created a climate in which the formidably difficult alternative of truths dismissal has been offered up as the substitute for rational considerations when ideologies are examined. Propositional tolerance is the new norm. Factual analysis and determinations have given way to purported speculation as the mode of discerning, that which is to be embraced intellectually.
To see these dynamics in effect, all one needs to do is interview the normal Junior High or Senior high School participant, to see how pervasive these postmodern theories of practice and implementation have become. The dialogue in this argument centers on the incorporation of openness, tolerance and modification of ideological positioning. If those who hold to these newly emerging views digress away from the widely held canons of this new reality concerning sociological influences, meaning changes substantively. Authoritative observances no longer prevail as acceptable methodologies with reference to leadership practices. Alternative, less intrusive structure of blended skills is the acceptable way of practical, organizational functions. Church or business, large or small: multiple functions are desirable against a dominant personality archetype.
The influence of postmodernism’s methods is profound and can be felt even in the church. Biblical authority and reliability are unacceptable postulations among postmodern theological circles. This is not for the same reasons as the Liberal schools, either. Objective authority simply is not granted a place of plausibility, therefore authority is deemed irrational. Obviously, the ramifications have the potential of enacting incalculable damage upon the churches structural method of approaching Scripture and presentation of Holy Writs message, to name a few of the myriad complications postmodernism brings into the church’s sphere of influence. These issues need to be addressed in a comprehensive format as the church goes about its stated purpose of exposing people to the postulations of rightly relating to Christ in a redemptive state of being.
