THE ACIDS OF DECAY ON TRUTH
A social base that rejects objective, concrete standards in relationship to knowledge suppositions, and one that creates measurable results in assumptions and dictates stands on tenuous ground. If the postmodern mindset continues to permeate the conscious appraisal of canon, the fabric of socially acceptable practices, equally falls into disrepute. Allusions to the acidic decay of polluted rain and adamant points of attack on teeth through enzymes is an appropriate equation when judging the long term problems associated with a changing place of understanding the value potentates of structural equations.
There are at least seven significant causal agents and their impact in creating a climate that is conducive to postmodernism is telling. The first agent to assess is the failure of the Enlightenments hoped for the achievements of a betterment of humanities plight in general. With the advent of a burgeoning knowledge of the natural world and an equally liberated position concerning the church as an institution, western civilization had once hoped for universal peace and equal distribution of knowledge and resources as the long lasting fruit of the Enlightenment as an indelible footprint left on the landscape of philosophy. The move toward postmodernism is a tacit acknowledgement that the Utopian existence is a canard. Wars continue to happen, with an escalation in savagery that far superceded anything possible prior to the Enlightenments postulated tenants of hope. Hope has not been deferred, it has been dashed into a mass of untold shards, broken on the floor, ground underfoot by the harsh taskmaster called history.
Another salient problem that has surfaced within the matrix of humanities reliance upon philosophies pabulum is the creation of a significant disconnection between people living in a macro-social structure. This deficient structuring of base human relational qualities lacks effective pathways of accountability concerning basic human rights and laws that protect individuals. It cannot be stated enough: accountability and conformity to social norms are conducive to a society as long as they do not negate the over of the individual. When anarchy reigns, destructive habits are formed that suppress the safety and security that are birthed within properly guided schemes that guarantee security among the denizens of any society.
Modernism seemingly has also failed to achieve balance and equality among people of faith by establishing pluralistic assimilation of religious faculties and organizations. Increasing divisions and suspicions abound between the differing factions of faith associations. This can be seen as a viable extension that asserts itself from within the tumultuous nature of nations and politically motivated upheavals. Rather than coming to the table with an openness to cede authority and salient points of difference in belief and history, humanity instead continues to see an escalation of conflict.
Spectral shadows can also be seen rising on the horizon that are imposing a sense of ill will among many westerners stuck in the conflicting era in which we live. This can be traced to the devolving platform of individualism in the midst of cosmopolitical and pluralistic expressions of absolute conformity that denigrate the opportunities for any one methodology to dominate the various societal strata that exists in tandem with homogenous groups at large. Equanimity seems to be the new standard, which is a suppressing agent. When an individual is caught in the grip of social conformity, uniqueness is lost. All of these previous considerations serve as a telling indictment of the deficiencies of modern thought (Enlightenment).
These problems, coupled with distrust in the limitations that language creates in the vast plethora of social networks that exist in national communities, and the emerging worldwide commune, fostered through advancing technological advances, has produced a new symbiotic classification of a type of social neurosis on a scale previously unattainable. The ‘we are a village’ ideology of some is quiet possibly an umbrella concept for villages of lunacy and idiots. The outcome has made probable standards difficult to assess and assimilate. The existential nihilism that allows or tolerates deviations becomes the news standard. The struggle of languages limited, durative power has some basis of worth in evaluating the argument. It is accurate that certainty must be communicated effectively if truth is to be understood. As such, truth’s presentation is only as good as the employment of language for truth’s possibilities to be conveyed.
With that said, it must be noted that truthfulness is not subservient to language, language serves truth. If language is faulty in the process of presentation, language, not truth, needs to be refined. Broader platforms of fields of words need to be identified in order to represent ultimate standards that reflect the visage of God’s grandeur.
These inherent difficulties are further exasperated when the written formats are questioned and found to be limited in expression. If objective standards are viewed as restricting the interpretive values stipulated by any author’s original intent of purpose in making statements of kind, and these statements are then nullified and left to the observer’s own interpretation of intent or meaning, no measurable boundaries will exist in textual data for evaluative purposes standard application. History points to the fallacious potentials that exist when interpretive standards are discarded. The churches long struggle against the allegorical method of interpretation showcases this dilemmas problematic approach to understanding.
To allow truth to be subject to the whims and fancy of the interpreter causes truth to no longer exist. This is seen, perhaps in no greater light, than in Foucault’s reassessment of Nietzsche’s assumptions. When objective standards are viewed as entrapments that force order in social structures and patterns that oppress, society stands in jeopardy of disintegrating into chaos. Hegelian models need to be created for effective apologetics to emerge, utilizing language to adopt what truth exists in postmodernism and render ineffective postmodernism’s difficulties.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Ethics, has a large section entitled “Truth and Decay.” His premise was based on the failure of the Western version of Christianity.
